Hope Not Hate on Their Campaigns Against the Far Right and Voter Alienation

May 15, 2023

I got this message last week from the anti-racism, anti-religious extremism organisation, entitled, appropriately enough, ‘Paul Golding Is A Loser’. Just to really rub it in to the head honcho of Britain First.

‘Hi David,

With your help, the far-right had a terrible time at the local elections! Thanks to the backing of supporters like you David, we made sure we defeated the far-right this time out.

During the campaign, we had two aims, prevent far right success at the ballot box and make sure young people were aware of the changes to the way we vote. And, David, we smashed it!

Our team worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to beat the far-right, here’s what they got up to:

  • We targeted the far-right parties Britain First and British Democrats in Salford, Dartford and Epping Forest. We ran several days of action in each ward, with Britain First losing in Salford and Dartford, and former BNP man Julian Leppert losing his seat in Epping Forest. Result!
  • Elsewhere, as part of our commitment to raising awareness to the changes to the way we vote, we built this fantastic interactive map through which supporters could draw their MP’s attention to the level of local disenfranchisement. This tool was a trial ahead of the General Election and was a big success!
  • We also wrote and produced two Voter ID awareness videos, which we carefully targeted at young people between the ages of 18-34 living in the North West to let them know about the changes to the way we vote. They were seen over a whopping 1.5 million times during the campaign!
  • Our researchers trawled the candidate nomination papers to pull together a blog on all the notable candidates from across the far-right and radical right. This formed the backbone of our campaigning work, and was a useful reference point for our supporters. You can check that out here.

Thanks for all that you do.

Georgie

Georgie Laming, Campaigns & Communications Director at HOPE not hate

P.S. We have a plan to go much further at the 2024 General Election, but we’ll need you to help us get there. Will you help?

One of the points here I found particularly interesting was that Paul Golding is being accused of committing electoral fraud. So, the voter ID laws are unnecessary, because the mass electoral fraud the Tories claim it combats simply doesn’t exist. There have only been a handful of cases. But one of those actually committing it is Golding and his far right outfit. This says much about them, and their contempt for democracy and thirst for power at any price.

Black Lives Matter Placard Refuting Fascist Lies of Britain First

June 7, 2020

Zelo Street has just put up a piece this evening reporting that the odious racists of Britain First turned up at the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in London yesterday. They were hardly out in force – according to the Street, there were only three of them, and that didn’t include their Fuhrer, Paul Golding. So much for the glorious Fascist legions ready to purge our island of Muslims and other non-White people. They were waving a banner around showing a little girl, who had been murdered by a mentally ill Albanian woman with the slogan ‘White Lives Matter’ and a picture of the royal crown.

This really didn’t go down well with the folks on Twitter, who posted a number of angry replies on Twitter. They attacked Britain First’s moral squalor in using the girl’s image, despite the requests by her family that it should not be so abused, their double standards in claiming to stand up for Whites, except when it came to eastern European, who were to go back to where they came from, and the fact that they were breaking the lockdown. One woman, Sooz Kempner, also said they’d banner her from their site because she kept correcting their spelling of ‘Muslim’. Another Tweeter, ‘Wolfie’, just called them ‘a bunch of knuckle-dragging racist twunts’. Quite.

Never mind – the long arm of the law may well be ready to nab for them breaching the copyright laws over the use of the crown’s image. The Advertising Standards Authority wrote to them, banning them from use it on their website. And although it can’t stop them from using it elsewhere, the cabinet office can and has. They wrote to the Fascisti, telling them to remove it from their website, marketing materials, stationery and stock immediately. Britain First hasn’t, and so Zelo Street suggests that someone just might want to tell the rozzers as ‘there’s nothing like seeing the Fash squeal’. Always a good and righteous endeavour.

https://zelo-street.blogspot.com/2020/06/far-right-breaks-lockdown-and-law.html

The Street also points out in its article that White lives have mattered for centuries. It’s just that they mattered, and in parts of the USA continue to matter, at the expense of other lives.

Mike in his article ‘Coronavirus Scrapbook June 6’ has this image from a Black Lives Matter demonstration, tweeted by The Canary.

As you can see, this is an effective response to the claims by racists like Britain First that the Black Lives Matter movement thinks everyone else’s lives are worthless, as expressed in the slogan used by counter-demonstrators ‘All Lives Matter’. They just want people’s help because Black lives really are in danger.

Nazi Sad Acts Try to Recruit Self-Respecting, Anti-Racist Jew

October 28, 2017

The anti-racist, anti-religious extremism organisation and site, Hope Not Hate, has put up on their site any number of stories showing how bonkers, ridiculous, and ultimately sad the Far Right are. These include details of their attempts to style themselves as the new Mussolinis, Hitlers and Mosleys, complete with cod Fascist uniforms. The megalomania of their leaders, as shown by the demand of one of these sawdust Caesars, that the assembled squadristi kiss his ring. One of them refused on the grounds that it was ‘homoerotic’. No! Really? This from a movement which has, historically, been fully of self-hating gays.

Then you have the sordid details about how these brave patriots, determined to save Britain from the menace posed by Jews, Muslims, Asians, Blacks, trade unions, gays, Gypsies, Socialists, Communists, and that bloke, who looked at them in a funny way once, have run away from the fights they’ve caused when they’re outnumbered. Or have beaten each other up because of disputes about money, stealing other people’s girl- and boyfriends. HNH has also mocked them because of their hypocrisy for engaging themselves in the type of sordid activities they blame on ‘Jewish big business wideboys’ and people of colour. Like drug peddling.

And they can hardly claim to be standing up for innocent, virginal White people and wholesome sexual morality against ‘Jewish pornographers’, when they themselves have, er, ‘private’ shops selling such magazines and other material. Which includes interracial porn. One female contributor to Counterpunch, looking at the marching morons in Charlottesville, stated that Fascists generally tend to be repressed self-hating gays, or, if not, be massively fixated on Black men pleasuring their wives with their enormous members. The Alt Right regularly uses the term ‘cuck’ as a form of abuse for their opponents. It’s short for ‘cuckold’, meaning a man, whose wife has been unfaithful to him. It also refers to a sexual perversion, where a man gets off on watching his wife have sex with other men. So in the case of the assembled Nazis, the term ‘cuck’ would seem to be self-referential.

The Far Right are a real menace and a growing threat. But they’re also so grotesque and incompetent that they’re also blackly funny. Hope Not Hate laughs at their stupidity, calling them ‘Nutzis’ and ‘Boneheads’. So did Private Eye. After running a series of stories about the bizarre antics of the BNP in Dagenham and Barking, and Tower Hamlets, the satirical magazine somehow got hold of an internal document showing that many of their stormtroopers had resigned. Among the various reasons was that the party had been made to look silly in the Eye.

Now the silliness continues in the form of the banned Nazi group, National Action, having sent a begging email to Tony Greenstein. I’ve blogged about and linked to several of Greenstein’s posts before, because he’s a bitter critic of Israeli racism and their ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. He’s also very anti-racist generally, and is a staunch opponent of Fascism. Quite apart from the fact that he is Jewish. His Zionist opponents have smeared him as anti-Semitic, but anyone reading his column will find plenty of evidence to refute that. He’s a secular atheist, like so many people, but that does not mean he hates his own ethnic group. Reading his posts, you find that he is very active within other Jewish Socialist organisations and those of Jews, who share his own fierce opposition to Israel and its ethnic cleansing of the country’s indigenous Arabs. In one article about a genuine Jewish anti-Semite, Gilad Atzmon, Greenstein has stated that the constitution of the pro-Palestinian group to which he belongs makes it clear that anti-Semites are very definitely denied membership.

All this, apparently, has been lost on the leadership of the Nazi outfit, National Action. Greenstein says he’s been receiving emails from them over the past few months asking him if he would like to make a donation. He tried to unsubscribe from their list, but they’ve come back.

They want his money because two of the Nazi organisation’s wretched leadership, Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, have jumped bail and gone on the lam. They want the money to overturn the bail conditions that were imposed on them for demonstrating against the ‘Muslim child rapists’. Presumably this would be one of the groups of Asian men responsible for the serial assault and sexual enslavement of hundreds of young girls.

No decent person has any time for child abusers and people do have legitimate reasons for protesting against the Asian paedophile gangs. Not because the gangs were Asian, but because the council knew about it and allowed them to continue because of the perceived threat to racial harmony. Since the scandal broke, there have been Asian writers commenting in the papers that the authorities smeared their communities by assuming that Muslims and/or Asians generally would riot if these men were arrested and brought to justice.

They also point out that the majority of paedophiles in this country are White. And there certainly is an element of selective outrage amongst the British Far Right, as several of those claiming to be defending girls and young women from these predators have themselves been sentenced to prison for sexual abuse and assault.

Greenstein suspects that the reason the Nazis have come back to ask him for cash is the result of some dirty tricks between the Zionist organisations that have set out to smear him as an Anti-Semite. He writes

Why have I been resubscribed? I suspect it is dirty tricks from one Jonathan Hoffman whose best friend is Britain First’s ‘Intelligence’ Chief Paul Besser. Both like to picket Palestinian and other meetings on the grounds of ‘anti-Semitism’.

This is a reference to a Palestinian civil rights conference which the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism declared was ‘anti-Semitic’ even before it started. Hoffman, a leading member of one of these anti-Palestinian groups, was caught standing next to Besser at the demo. Which shows how selective and hypocritical the Zionist’s definition of anti-Semitism is. As for Besser and Britain First, the real anti-Semites always had a very flexible attitude to who was Jewish when it suited them. Karl von Luegerer,, then anti-Semitic mayor of Vienna, whom Hitler admired, had numerous Jewish friends. When asked about them by one of his fellow bigots, Luegerer replied ‘I say who’s a Jew and who isn’t’.

Greenstein concludes his comments by saying

I guess it’s kind of flattering to be told that they need me, even if they offer me the alternative of signing up or do nothing. At least, it would seem they take Jews!

Dig deep for these two neo-Nazi nuts. You know they’re worth it.

http://azvsas.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/britain-firsts-leaders-paul-golding-and.html

This is obviously very heavy irony. National Action have been banned as a terrorist group. They’re very openly Nazi. There’s footage of them at a demonstration in Liverpool screaming ‘Sieg Heil!’ and raising their right arms in the Fascist salute. Hope Not Hate also obtained a copy of a speech one of their leaders, Kevin Layzell, gave up north, which followed the usual Nazi conspiracy theory about the Jews using non-White immigration to destroy the White race.

They clearly don’t want Jews at all. On the other hand, someone might think that they could be useful for smearing a genuine anti-racist by association. Or it could be simply colossal, asinine stupidity. Which, given the massive lack of competence these thugs have shown over the years, is also a very plausible factor.

Vox Political: Britain First Get Chased Out of Leicester

May 23, 2016

And now a piece of good new. I’ve posted up several articles recently about Paul Golding’s neo-Nazi outfit, Britain First. This is another far-Right corpuscule with a tiny membership. It’s also particularly hostile to Islam and Muslims, though that’s pretty much common now amongst the extreme Right and wider sections of British society, thanks to the wars in the Middle East and the continuing threat of terrorism from ISIS and al-Qaeda.

Britain First held a demonstration in Leicester this weekend. They didn’t get very far in their attempts to stir up racial hatred there, and were sent packing. Mike’s covered it over at Vox Political, complete with a piccie of their demo and the crowds of anti-Nazis surrounding them. See: http://voxpoliticalonline.com/2016/05/21/britain-first-leicester-anti-eu-protest-gets-chased-out-of-town/

Every now and then someone produces a statistic that’s supposed to show that most British people are racist and ready to vote for the far Right. From this, it seems that the opposite is true, and that while there is increasing xenophobia in British society – you only have to look at the headlines about immigrants in the Scum, the Heil and the Express to see that – very, very few people in our fair country have any time for Nazism. Groups like the NF, BNP and Britain First have miniscule and dwindling memberships, and have been repeatedly shown by the people of towns up and down the length of Britain that their vicious hatred and violence is not welcome. This is yet another example.

Vox Political on Frankie Boyle’s Joke about Britain First

May 14, 2016

Mike has posted up today an article commenting on Frankie Boyle’s quip about Paul Golding’s protest against Sadiq Khan on last night’s Have I Got News For You. Golding is the head of Britain First, a rabid Nazi outfit similar to the English Defence League. He was previously the national chairman of the National Front. Like the EDL, Britain First claims to be defending Britain from islamification. Their tactics included forcing their way to mosques to disrupt the services by haranguing the imams and worshippers. They claim to be a Christian organisation, but their antics have been condemned by other Christians and their ministers. And like the NF and several other Fascist groups, they have connections to Protestant paramilitaries in Northern Ireland. They are a thoroughly vile lot.

At Khan’s swearing in ceremony as the new mayor of London, Golding pointedly turned his back on Khan. Boyle remarked that it would have been funny if he’d accidentally turned towards Mecca. Indeed it would, though I doubt Golding would have appreciated the humour of the situation.

Mike notes that Boyle has himself been accused of racism, once suing the Daily Mirror for libel. During the trial, Boyle said “I think it is a top down thing. I think you have a lot of rich and Conservative people who control our country who are racist and their views trickle down through things like tabloid papers.”

This is very much the case. The Express and the Heil have been running articles against immigration from the 1930s, and the record of the Sun in this regard would, frankly, be an embarrassment to decent people. A few years ago the Sun got on its high horse to issue an editorial praising Britain as a tolerant nation following a racist incident. I’ve forgotten quite what the controversy was. I can only recall how Private Eye took the opportunity to remind the Scum about its own long record of racism. And it is very long. In its career, the Press Complaints Commission issued something like 25 decisions against the paper for racism. This included one cartoon in which a group of pigs were shown marching with placards. The punchline was ‘Now even pigs object to being compared with Arabs’. The Scum is, of course, owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also part-owns the notorious Fox News in America. One of its main anchor is Bill O’Reilly, whose also not unknown for rants that could be described as racist. Like he said that the reason Black Americans couldn’t get jobs was because too many of them were uneducated and had tattoos on their foreheads. This drew widespread derision, not least because there aren’t that many black people with tattoos on their foreheads. Though I have seen them sported by White neo-Nazis.

Golding’s group are unpleasant, but like most of the Fascist groups in Britain, they’re hardly massed legions. They claim hundreds of thousands of members through ‘likes’ on Facebook, though these are for articles they’ve put up on perfectly decent topics, which aren’t really associated with any particular party, like animal cruelty. I think the number of people actually in Golding’s organisation as paid up stormtroopers is low, possibly below 20. He’s not going to sweep into power any time soon, and certainly not with his racist antics against Mr Khan simply on account of the new mayor’s religion.

Hope Not Hate: Luton Churches Protest against ‘Christian Patrol’ and ‘Britain First’

January 28, 2016

Hope Not Hate have published a great piece on their blog reporting the efforts churches in Luton have made in trying to stop Britain First and their ‘Christian Patrol’. Britain First are another Fascist hate group, with ties to Ulster loyalist paramilitaries and the BNP. They claim to be British Christians protesting against the Islamicisation of this country, and protecting its non-Muslim peoples from Muslim attacks. In fact it’s fair to say they’re racist, sectarian fanatics, of the same stripe as the Klu Klux Klan in America. The only difference is that instead of persecuting Jews, they’re targeting Muslims. They harass Muslims on the street, and have staged invasions of mosques.

Last Saturday 20 of them goose-stepped around Luton, led by Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, haranguing the local Muslim population. They’ve videoed it, and put it on Youtube, where it’s supposedly garnered 18 million hits. The piece by Hope Not Hate reports the efforts some 30 Christian leaders in Luton to dissuade Britain First from coming, and then reason with them when they insisted on doing so. They were also active trying to restore some kind of interfaith harmony after they did so. The piece particularly mentions the vicar of Bury Park, David Keveston, for his efforts in organising a counter-protest against them which included both Muslims and Christians.

The piece can be read here: http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/blog/nick/churches-challenge-britain-first-lsquo-christian-patrol-rsquo-4724

They also have this piece, http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/britain-first/, giving further information about Britain First. They’re an extremist Christian version of Anjem Chaudhury’s ‘Muslim Patrol’, and like him and his despicable network of jihadis, deserves nothing but contempt.

I’m very aware of the persecution Christians are facing in countries around the world, including the Dar al-Islam, as well as the need to crack down on the preachers of hate here. However, bigotry and intimidation are not the way to do it, and definitely not the harassment of the innocent.

Hope Not Hate are concerned that some Christians might be taken in by them. So don’t be deceived. There’s nothing mainstream about Britain First. They don’t represent the majority of Christians in this country. They are just bigots and Nazis, who’ve found someone else to persecute. I went to an Anglican church school, which gave me a solid, Christian education while at the same time the staff and clergy had a profound horror of sectarian bigotry, racism and the violence these breed. I did my first degree at a former Anglican teacher training college, where I was taught Islam by Indian Christian, who had Muslim friends among the staff, and who was similarly horrified by religious violence. Britain First has absolutely nothing in common with them and the thousands of other churches, schools and colleges like them. They’re a disgrace, and I don’t want them misrepresenting either British Christianity, or worse, drawing anybody else into their vile beliefs.

Pegida UK Puts Photos of Anti-Fascist Protestors on Redwatch

March 23, 2015

Pope, Scott, Rogers

From left to right: the organisers of the Pegida demonstration in Newcastle, Matthew Pope, Emma Scott and Marion Rogers.

Golding and the stormtroopers of Britain First aren’t the only Far Rightists, who want to publish the names and addresses of anti-Fascist protestors. According to EDL News, an anti-EDL site, Pegida UK have also posted up pictures of the protestors against the Pegida UK demonstration in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne the other week on Redwatch. The Pegida demonstration was attended by members of the NF, the EDL and the Golden Dawn from Greece.

The article notes that Redwatch’s slogan is “Remember places, traitors’ faces, they’ll all pay for their crimes”, taken from the lyrics of Ian Stuart Donaldson, a neo-Nazi musician, who was killed in a car crash in 1993.

The article also notes the various threats and assaults to protestors and Leftists, who have appeared on Redwatch’s hate list. Dipu Ahad, the protest’s organiser, had received threats against him even before the counter-demonstration. Merseyside TUC organiser and Respect candidate Alec McFadden was also threatened and assaulted after Redwatch put up his details. In 2006 a Polish anti-Fascist was attacked, after the Polish version of the site put up his details.

Kevin Watmough

Kevin Watmough

Redwatch, according to Hope Not Hate, is run by Kevin Watmough, an NF stormtrooper, who campaigned for the release of Martyn Gilleard, a neo-Nazi who in 2008 was convicted of making bombs to use against Jews and Muslims. Gilleard was also a paedo, who had downloaded 39,000 indecent images of children.

This is highly ironic, considering that the Far Right claims to be protecting innocent British children from predatory Muslims. In fact a number of members of the BNP and the NF have convictions for child abuse.

The EDL News’ report on Redwatch putting up the faces of anti-Pegida protestors is at http://edlnews.co.uk/2015/03/10/pegida-uk-put-photos-of-opposition-of-neo-nazi-run-redwatch-website/; Hope Not Hate’s article on Redwatch and Watmough is at http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/blog/insider/here-he-is-lover-4323; the Beeb’s report on Gilleard’s conviction is at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7469180.stm

Britain First Urges Followers to Support UKIP, Vows to Track Down Kent Protesters

March 23, 2015

The Independent has also run this story, Vote Ukip, says far-right group Britain First, reporting that the Fuehrer of Britain First, Paul Golding, has urged his mighty legions of stormtroopers to vote for the Kippers. The Indie’s article states that Golding’s message is repeated in leaflets and letters produced by Islamophobic party. It states that Golding claims that the groups own activities in ‘Muslim ghettoes’ and ‘major UKIP gains’ will become a ‘game changer’ to turn 2015 into the year of Britain First and UKIP, leading to a ‘resurgence of British patriotism’.

The Indie’s article states that the party has its origins in anti-abortion campaigns and Ulster nationalism. It has been responsible for organising ‘Christian patrols’, supposedly to counter the ‘Muslim patrol’ set up by Islamic radicals to harass drinkers and gay people in parts of London. They have also invaded mosques to hand out Bibles to worshippers.

Farage has denounced extreme Right-wing parties, like Britain First, and the offers to support him and the Kippers. The article says

A Ukip spokesman said it was not embarrassing but farcical that Britain First was supporting them. “We’re just not where they think we are,” he said. “On the fringes of our politics are nutters and we don’t want them anywhere near us.”

Golding for Britain First stated that he knew why Farage wanted to distance himself and his party from them, and urged them to ignore the blather and vote for the Kippers.

The article’s at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/vote-ukip-say-farright-group-britain-first-10126389.html.

The anti-Kipper site, SlatUKIP, has posted this piece showing that Paul Golding has urged his squadristi to hunt down and publish the names and addresses of the protestors who turned up at the Purple Duce’s pub in Downe at the weekend.

Golding anti-Farage Protesters

This is an old tactic used by the Far Right for decades. They tried it against a women’s rights organisation in Brighton back in the 1970s, but mysteriously stopped when the local Socialists and Trades Union newsletter started publishing their names and addresses.

As for the ‘Christian Patrols’ and mosque invasions, Hope Not Hate has pointed out that very few, if any, of Britain First’s members ever actually go to church. Instead, they show their deep Christian piety by getting drunk and urinating against church walls.

They look pretty much like the same old bunch of Neo-Nazis, who are just using a veneer of Christian piety and Islamophobia to disguise their simple, old-fashioned racism. The Indie’s article on them notes that they stand or ‘assisted repatriation’ and sending convicted foreign criminals back to their countries of origin without recourse to the court.

As for the Kippers claiming that they ‘are not where’ Britain First think they are, unfortunately a series of racist and fanatically intolerant and Islamophobic comments by their members, from the Purple Duce downwards, show that this is very much where they are.
