Vox Political: What Happened to the other 39 Indecent Images Patrick Rock was Caught With?

Here’s another Tory scandal on top of a scandal. Yesterday Mike put up a piece reporting the trial of Patrick Rock, the Cameron aid, who was caught and arrested by the rozzers for possession of 59 indecent pictures of children. According to Mike’s article, however, he’s only being charged with possession of 20. So what’s happened to the other 39? Mike reasonably asks if there’s been a stitch up.

Has there been a stitch-up in the child abuse imagery case against Cameron’s aide Patrick Rock?

The article Mike quotes from and links to states that the images are category C. This is the mildest level of child pornography. It states that the children are clothed, but placed in sexualised positions. Mike therefore considers it highly possible that Rock will therefore get off, and the trial would stop as soon as it starts because the evidence against Rock is less than convincing. Rock is claiming that it is no more immoral than Britney Spears performing for her video, Hit Me Baby One More Time, when she was 16.

You are left wondering if the evidence has been altered in order to prevent Rock from going to gaol. The other 39 images could have been quietly ditched, because they were much harder and would have had Rock sent to prison if shown to a court and jury.

On the other hand, there could be a more innocent explanation. It may well be that much of the evidence against Rock was considered too weak on its own to get a conviction against Rock, and so the police have concentrated on using the strongest evidence. Either way it, all looks very suspicious.

The trial should also be the centre of even more attention, coming as it does at the same time there is another investigation of murky events at the Kincora Boys’ home in Northern Ireland in the 1970s and ’80s. This was the centre of a major child abuse scandal, including allegations that the boys were being prostituted out for the sick pleasure of leading Ulster loyalists. And there are strong suspicions that this was also covered up, not just because of the abusers’ membership of the Establishment, but also because of the desire to close ranks amongst the British elite against the Nationalists during the Troubles.
