The amount claimed is trivial, but the principle is important here. Every years millions of Brits purchase a poppy to give to a charity caring for soldiers and their families. It’s a small sacrifice made to commemorate those, who made a much greater, and in many cases, the ultimate sacrifice. Kelly’s claim therefore seems to be an insult to those who genuinely mourn for and remember the war dead. In fact, considering how the Daily Mail attacks newsreaders and other celebrities and public figures, who don’t wear a poppy, it’s a nasty, cynical piece of electioneering.
(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
Tory MP for Dudley South, Chris Kelly, claimed £10.80 for travel expenses to turn up to Remembrance Sunday last year.
The scandalous expenses claim, which was published by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, was made in 2014.
Interestingly, this information about Kelly was dug up by UKIP’s candidate for Dudley South, Paul Brothwood:
MP Remembrance Day travel claim slammed
Again showing there is no love lost between the Tories and UKIP when it comes to fighting this election.
By the way, Kelly is joint-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Combating Metal Theft
Pity he doesn’t take the theft of taxpayers’ money so seriously.

Most of us now know that those in power are a corrupt lot with their fingers in the pie with the private companies who they award contracts too but I wonder would the next government hold them to account for their crimes nah jeff3

I hope they do, but you’re right, it is debatable. Too many politicians have made too many promises they never intended to keep, and the power of the corporations remains far too strong.
