I agree with the detractors and Inforrm in that this isn’t the victory for open government it’s been held up to be. Only a few parts of the trial will be held in open court and only particular journalists will be invited to cover the proceedings. It’s still a secret trial, with those parts held in open court subject to strict security with the presence of the press strictly controlled. This does not bode well for the future. The gate to Kafka’s The Castle is still wide open, as it is the Nazi policies of disappearing the accused into ‘Nacht und Nebel’ – Night and Fog.
