UKIP and the Conservative Media Celebration of Labour Defeats

Yesterday I reblogged Mike’s piece ‘Dire Day for the Tories – So Why Were the Pundits Hammering Labour?’ commenting on the way Dimblebore and the other election commenters were presenting the elections as if Labour had suffered massive losses when in fact it was the reverse. In fact the Conservative media have form for this. It doesn’t matter if they get absolutely hammered, so long as Labour loses to another party.

Years ago, when I was still at school, Labour lost an election in Scotland to, I believe, the SNP. This is now pretty common, but it was remarkable thirty or so years ago when Mrs Thatcher was still the occupant of No. 10. The right-wing press, such as the Mail and Express, seized on this as a massive Labour defeat. You could have been forgiven, looking at the headlines, that this was something for the Tories to celebrate North of the Border.

In fact the opposite was true. Labour may have come second, but the Tories were pushed into either fourth or fifth place. Malcolm Rifkind complained to Thatcher that her policies had destroyed the Conservative party in Scotland, and this is precisely right. From what I can remember of the result, if the members of a ladies’ knitting circle or the local branch of a trainspotters’ or ferret-fanciers’ club had put up candidates, they would have won more seats than the Tories. This didn’t appear to matter to the Tory editors, however. What mattered to them was that the leading opposition party in Britain as a whole should be seen as losing, and so damage their electoral credibility that way. It was only secondary that in the election the Tory candidate had reached the same number of votes and amount of credibility as the Monster Raving Loony Party.

It was this attitude, I think, that was influencing Dimblebore and the media commenters on the election as the results came in on Thursday night.

Even North East local media are at it, boosting UKIP results locally.

The facts – across the 5 councils in Tyne & Wear, UKIP had just 2 seats prior to these elections (both in South Tyneside).

Following these elections, UKIP – who were said to be especially targetting the region – now have just one seat (and that possibly only because it was not up for re-election this time round).

So they won nothing, they lost 50% of what they did have. This is success ?

According to the local media – yes.

UKIP is getting coverage, even with the failed idea of negative campaigning, from everyone, however much they say they are left wing.

Labour is not left wing nor socialist and will continue to cause the penniless starvation of the young and old, disabled, chronic sick, working poor and unemployed, now and when they win a minority government in 2015 general election.

The socialists that would have fed all and stopped all the suffering from government of austerity and welfare reform, are ignored by s-called left wing forums / blogs and the trade unions, whose membership funds should be going to TUSC, Left Unity Party and Mebyon Kernow in Cornwall.

Living wages, affordable housing from the hundreds of thousands of derelict rat infested abandoned homes renovated and brought back into use as social housing and the end of the Bedroom Tax from first day of such socialist councillors in councils, has been lost.

May 22 could have saved so many lives.

Now councils will continue to be part of the early death and suicide of so many, the hungry kids getting the Victorian starvation symptom of Rickets and the people doctors are saying more and more are being admitted to hospital for starvation.

The Labour and The Greens believe in Austerity and have done it wherever they rule.

Labour sack Labour councillors who vote against council cuts budgets.

Green taxes so beloved of the Greens add ab out £200 a year to average fuel bills. 30,000 elderly die each winter in unaffordable unheated homes.

So there is a choice here.

Believe in what Labour stood for at the turn of the 20th century, when people fought and died to bring the party into being, or believe in a Labour party now as nasty as the Tories, Lib Dems and UKIP – all Tory parties now.

A new debate needs to start and especially within the executive of the trade union movement, who invented Labour.

Will trade unions be part of the problem or part of the solution?

When will trade unions all remove their funding to Labour?

Because people’s lives depend on the end of Labour and The Greens and the socialists all merging into one coalition big enough to get at least 326 MPs into power in 2015.

Gandhi observed that People’s Politics are Their Daily Bread.

Labour takes the bread out of peoples’ mouths to the real working class by lack of money to at least 13 million people of all ages.

The Greens just leave us to freeze.

The socialist parties have anti-fracking protesters and ex-Labour MPs as members, more and more.

The real labour philosophy is not in Labour or The Greens.

You are leaving us to starve and did so since Blair and Brown and continue with Miliband (in New Labour) and Ed Balls (New Labour’s Brown’s speech writer).

Think please and actually care about those who are dying in awful circumstances caused by Austerity that Labour and The Greens share the love as do Tories, UKIP or Lib Dem.

Sorry but there is a truth being ignored. It is not cost of living that is important. But any food money at all.

How God Damn true it’s painful to read, Labour must change it’s stance and speak out for the majority before things get worse. Note nothing mentioned by the BBC on IDS failure on UC and it’s “reset” what a national disgrace.
